That night in a fit of rage, Michelangelo took hammer and chisel and inscribed in lapidary letters - MICHEL ANGELUS BONAROTUS FLORENT FACIBAT (Michelangelo Buonarroti, Florentine, made this).

This is the only work that Michelangelo ever signed!
